Welcome to the Madison Chapter of Amigos de las Américas.
Looking for a fantastic volunteer summer experience?
You have come to the right place! We have an excellent program that sends teens and young adults on service projects to Latin America.
Our community meetings for parents and potential volunteers are scheduled for Monday, September 29, and Tuesday October 7 in Auditorium G5/119, UW Hosptial, 600 Highland Avenue, Madison, WI.
If you have any questions about the Amigos-Madison chapter please leave a message at our voice mail box, 608-831-4554 and one of our board members will return your call as soon as possible.
Every year a select group of volunteers spends six to eight weeks in a
host country working on different public health projects. Countries
where volunteers will live and work in the summer of 2009 include Costa
Rica, the Dominican Republic, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama,
Guatamala, and Paraguay.
Throughout the school year our chapter prepares its members for their
Latin America experiences through training in cross-cultutral
sensitivity, networking, technical skills, personal health &
safety, and the culture of Latin America. In June, our chapter
volunteers travel to their assigned countries. Once in country, they
join with approximately 700 volunteers from other chapters
throughout the United States. Volunteers are then placed, in
partnerships of two to four, in rural or semi-rural communities to live
for the summer.
Life-long friendships have been built between AMIGOS volunteers and
their adopted communities. Thousands of young people have learned
invaluable lessons about cultural differences, community service, and
their own ability to lead.
